Qualifications:

 

Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or Food Systems Management

Registered Dietitian, Licensed Dietitian or eligible for Registered Dietitian

Member of the American Dietetic Association

Minimum of two years of food service supervisory experience

Proficient computer skills utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms and software applications

School Food Service and Food Purchasing experience (preferred)

Effective verbal and written communication skills

Strong organization and time management skills

Cooperative with all levels of management, district personnel, parents and patrons

Work experience presenting material to diverse audience and facilitating meetings

Ability to work effectively under pressure within deadlines while maintaining attention to detail

Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

Ability to work flexible hours required to meet departmental needs and functions; may include early mornings, evenings, holidays and summer months.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Ability to adapt quickly and successfully to changes; delivery quality results in a timely manner

Ability to maintain highest level of confidentiality, exercise sound judgement and discretion

Skill in providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers

Food Handler certification (required) ServSafe certification (preferred)

Primary Purpose:

 

To positively impact the Nutrition and Food Service Department to maintain high standards of quality food production and procurement efficiencies through instruction, implementation, and supervision. Provide knowledge and expertise in planning student menus for students of all abilities. Coordinate with the Director of Policy and Procurement in areas concerning policy and procurement for the Nutrition and Food Service Department.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Have knowledge of and monitor the implementation of the United States Department of Agriculture and the Texas Department of Agriculture menu planning policies and regulations.
  2. Create individualized special diet menus to accommodate students with life threatening allergies or disabilities as supported by physician documentation.
  3. Discuss diet modifications with parents and notify appropriate personnel.
  4. Maintain list of allergy alerts and manage in software program.
  5. Assist in developing all district student menus to be in compliance with federal regulations using district approved software program.
  6. Create and maintain processes for alternate forms of meal service such as field trips.
  7. Train food service staff on safely serving students with allergies, pureed diets and other special diet related topics.
  8. Works with the school nurses concerning student diet and menu modifications.
  9. Assess customer preferences, industry trends and current research through frequent student/staff taste tests and other events to effectively plan menus and develop recipes that encourage participation in the program.
  10. Participate in meetings with food vendors, brokers and manufacturers to determine product acceptability for menu planning.
  11. Reviews food product acceptance and changes products to meet the federal restrictions and student acceptability.
  12. Evaluate product samples and create surveys to generate feedback.
  13. Complete routine site visits to observe special diet procedure compliance, review menu acceptability and ensure that standardized recipes are appropriate for quality, acceptability, operational efficiency, etc.
  14. Communicates with district food vendors to set up delivery schedule.
  15. Manage site ordering and correct issues as needed.
  16. Work with the school nurses concerning student diet and menu modifications.
  17. Manages all documentation required to support food production and menus, including Child Nutrition Labels and Product Formulation Statements.
  18. Manage and maintain documentation required for federal audits.
  19. Monitors department nutrition education efforts and makes suggestions to improve.
  20. Develop and manage implementation of department marketing program and resources available to the public.
  21. Schedule monthly, or as needed, promotions to support TDA initiatives.
  22. Answers parent questions concerning food service procedures and policies.
  23. Speak at parent, student and staff functions concerning food service procedures.
  24. Provide assistance and nutrition information for promotions and marketing projects.
  25. Attend continuing education programs to maintain ADA and TDA certification.
  26. Serve on district Student Health Advisory Committee and assist in monitoring District Wellness policy.
  27. Communicate effectively with Katy ISD students, interns, parents, faculty and administration.
  28. Provide guidance and work experiences to high school students and dietetic interns.
  29. Knowledge of HACCP/Serv-Safe regulations.
  30. Attend workshops, training, and seminars to keep abreast of current research and information.
  31. Assume additional duties as assigned.

Personal computer and all appropriate office equipment

 

Working Conditions:

 

Normal Office work environment with travel and visitations to schools, kitchens, stadiums, concessions, arenas, warehouse, and other district facilities.  May have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activity and human contact.  Position involves sitting; walking; standing; pulling and pushing; kneeling, stooping and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skills and coordination; and safely lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40 pounds.  Work extended times at a computer, and may require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed. Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent districtwide travel.
