Primary Purpose:

To maintain the accuracy of all PISD general ledger accounts and the resulting financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and TEA regulations.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other related field

TASBO certification preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of fund or governmental accounting and investment practices
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, evaluate accounting problems, develop data, and recommend improved procedures
  • Ability to software to develop complex accounting reports, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of and commitment to customer care principles

Experience:

  • Five years of experience in accounting and/or investments, Financial electronic data processing systems and computers
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Accounting

1.   Classify, record, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and maintain financial records, according to governmental accounting principles and district procedures.

2.   Perform month-end general ledger reconciliations.

3.   Compute and prepare data for journal entries.

4.   Assist with preparing financial reports, as needed.

5.   Perform monthly bank reconciliations.

6.   Set up and maintain account controls, logs, and files including fixed asset management.

7.   Facilitate an annual inventory of the District’s fixed assets.

8.   Assist with budgeting and reconciling the District Child Nutrition fund.

9.   Perform bank transmissions and reconcile positive pay for issued payments.

10.  Provide schedules and information to the external auditors, as needed.

11.  Provide accurate and timely answers to other District personnel who have questions or problems regarding general accounting issues.

12.  Document processes and standard operating procedures.

13.  Track lease acquisitions and dispositions and make sure they are properly classified per GASB standards.

14.  Track software subscriptions and make sure they are properly classified per GASB standards.

15.  Assist with research and implementation of new standards issued by GASB.

16.  Follow District emergency procedures and safety protocols.

17.  Perform other duties as assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
