Primary Purpose

Assist the Child Nutrition Assistant Director of Planning with the implementation and compliance of food service operation by providing training to all staff. Provide program assistance in the area of nutrition education, menu planning and special diets.


Major Responsibilities and Duties

1. Review all documents and maintain database on student allergies/disabilities
2. Provide allergen training to Child Nutrition staff and nurses
3. Provide allergen information on district website
4. Approve necessary dietary accommodations, and consult with managers, nurses and parents
5. Provide data on carbohydrate counts, calories and product ingredients to nursing staff and parents as requested
6. Coordinate nutrition education through the Child Nutrition Department
7. Responsible for assisting with Food Production Record Training
8. Responsible for all Product testing
9. Assist Assistant Director of Planning with recipe development and menu implementation
10. Create, enter and update inventory items in the PrimeroEdge software
11. Maintain all order guides
12. Assist in updating web page and social media platforms
13. Make routine visits to cafeterias and closely monitor the school meal program to ensure compliance with rules and regulations governing the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs
14. Provide support to cafeteria managers and employees
15. Help supervise food production, quality, and portion control
16. Promote innovation in Child Nutrition operations
17. Complete required number of professional development hours for USDA and district requirement
18. Attendance at work is an essential function.
19. Other duties assigned by the Child Nutrition Director or designee.
20. Support and promote the school district vision, mission, and objectives
21. Communicate effectively with all school district personnel
22. Serve as the Child Nutrition Services representative on the District Student Health Advisory Council


Minimum Experience

• Five years management experience in Public School Nutrition Services preferred


Minimum Education/Certification:

• Bachelor’s degree in foods and nutrition, dietetics, home economics, food service management or related field
• Registered Dietitian Required
• Valid Texas driver's license
• Eligible for coverage under the district’s vehicle insurance program

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Knowledge of all Federal and State school lunch and breakfast regulation
• Ability to read and understand instructions for food preparation and safety procedures
• Possess people management and motivation skills
• Ability to train large groups
• Bilingual Preferred
• Cybersoft/PrimeroEdge software experience is a plus
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher


Working Conditions
Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over), pushing (intermittent), reaching above shoulders, use of fingers, walking (intermittent), standing (intermittent), specific visual requirements, using computer and reading small print.
