Job description:
The Parent and Family Engagement Laison encourages family/parental involvement and provides ongoing education programs to immediate family members, parents/legal guardians of students enrolled at A+ Charter Schools. Assists schools in addressing the needs of culturally and/or linguistically diverse students and families and effectively empowers parents to become active partners in the education of their children by providing informational and academic resources and trainings. Increases opportunities for parents and guardians to participate as partners with the school in the academic and social growth of their children. Organizes activities and educates parents to increase parent engagement.
Job qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in education or related field preferred
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Must be adaptable to meet the needs of families and able to work flexible hours to accommodate work in the evening
Experience working in an educational, social service, or family support service setting
Experience with child development and effective parenting techniques
Experience working with families that have diverse cultures and economic backgrounds
Technology proficiency including Desktop Publishing
Standard physical activity such as periodic standing, walking, sitting, basic motor skills to access computer files for information or simple data entry
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of campus instructional operations and school community demographics.
Ability to serve a culturally diverse community of students, parents, and community members.
Ability to interact effectively with and provide guidance to students, and parents.
Experience in community-based outreach, e.g. parent workshops, community development, etc.
Ability to develop and implement parent education programs that support the district’s vision and mission.
Strong organizational, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to work flexible hours.
Bilingual (Spanish) required
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Serve as liaison between school and home, establish trusting relationships and welcoming environment, and serve as a point of contact for families by planning, coordinating and implementing a Family Engagement Program involving all campuses of A+ Charter Schools.
- Work with the district counseling staff to determine resources needed to assist families within the district.
- Administer the Parent Resource Center, including acquiring/managing resources, scheduling parent support workshops to provide resources to families in the A+ Charter Schools Community.
- Provide quality presentations and workshops for parents, families, and community.
- Work directly with the campus principal to support parent outreach efforts that will impact student achievement; assist with Title I, Part A Parental Involvement requirements.
- Promote parent and community volunteer opportunities within the district.
- Assist parents and guardians to navigate the school system, assisting with awareness of available campus, district, and community social services and their attainment.
- Prepare outreach materials for distribution in language(s) of parents and guardians; ensure multilingual signs, bulletin boards, and other displays are visible at school entrance/lobby to welcome all parents and provide information.
- Conduct outreach activities, surveys, and coordinate parent and community engagement opportunities.
- Coordinate with community partners to provide a parenting program for parents and community members within A+ Charter Schools.
- Provide meaningful opportunities for parents and families to be actively engaged in their children’s learning.
