INSTRUCTIONAL COORDINATOR DYSLEXIA AREAS PK-12 JOB DESCRIPTION 

JOB TITLE: Instructional Coordinator Dyslexia

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt                                                   

REPORTS TO:  Executive Director of MTSS

LENGTH OF WORK YEAR: 220 days

PAY GRADE:  Admin/Prof 4

DEPARTMENT:  Learning Services

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

• To provide instructional support to improve all aspects of services provided to students with (Screening, identification, and instructional services).
• To act as a collaborative leader in supporting Multi-Tiered Systems of Support under the Response to Intervention umbrella (RTI), Dyslexia Program, and 504 to ensure programs are in compliance with federal, state and local regulations and meet Irving ISD students’ instructional needs. To work in collaboration with district level and school site leaders in building strong systems to include data driven decision making, progress monitoring, evidence-based interventions, special education (504) eligibility components, and ongoing training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education:

• Master’s Degree required
• Valid Texas teaching certificate in ELAR or Core Subjects [Required]
• Licensed Dyslexia Therapist preferred
• ESL Supplement preferred
• Bilingual preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

• Experience working with students with dyslexic characteristics
• Specific knowledge of dyslexia
• General knowledge of all elementary and secondary curriculum areas
• Knowledge in the selection, training, and supervision of personnel
• Ability to plan and conduct staff development
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds
• Knowledge of State and district content standards and knowledge of district school improvement initiatives, including content standards, effective instruction, and assessment practices
• Skills in collaboration, curriculum development, and the use of data to improve student success

Minimum Experience:

At least three (3) years of teaching experience in Reading/English Language Arts area; secondary and elementary experience preferred

At least three (3) years of experience as a dyslexia teacher or interventionist preferred

At least two (2) years of supervisory experience preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Curriculum Development and Instructional Management

1. Supervise and support Dyslexia services for PK – 12 students
2. Supervise Dyslexia Interventionists and Specialists
3. Evaluate dyslexia program for effectiveness
4. Suggest methods, procedures and/or new programs for implementing the dyslexia curriculum
5. Facilitate and encourage the use of the data team process to improve student achievement
6. Collaborate with the professional learning department to plan and conduct workshops, conferences, and teacher training institutes to introduce new methods and procedures to improve quality of instruction
7. Plan, develop present training on Dyslexia Services
8. Collaborate with the special education department on dyslexia processes and procedures for all students
9. Review district and state assessment data to improve instruction
10. Keep Executive Director informed concerning pertinent aspects of dyslexia programs
11. Serve on district committees and task forces that pertain to instruction and assessment

School/Organizational Climate and Improvement:

12. Facilitate two-way communication to and from the school, concerning all aspects of school and district programs, policies, and other issues impacting student achievement and success
13. Work cooperatively with all members of Learning Services
14. Communicate with other administrative departments

Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management:

15. Appropriately allocate assigned funds throughout the school year
16. Assist in securing additional funding through grants and private corporations
17. Make recommendations to schools on appropriate resources to support the dyslexia program

Student Management:

18. Facilitate the development of criteria for proper placement of students in courses

Professional Growth and Development:

19. Stay abreast of current research by practice, by attending conferences, workshops, and reading professional literature
20. Join, participate in, and work on committees associated with professional organizations

Professional Practices:

21. Abide by the Professional Code of Ethics
22. Adhere to all board policies and District administrative procedures
