Job Description: Serves as the educational leader of the assigned campus. Manages policies, regulations, and procedures to ensure all students are supervised in a safe learning environment, monitors the approved curricula and supports the mission of the district. Guides the character of the school and serves as a model for staff. Organizes programs and activities designed to improve and enhance parental and community involvement. Builds a high performing team of teachers and support staff. Demonstrates dedication to helping students achieve personal and academic success by using proven best practices for teaching and learning; performs other duties as assigned. Essential Individual Characteristics: • Possesses a moral and ethical compass. • Demonstrates a heart and passion for leadership. • Identifies quality instructional and non-instructional staff and inspires excellence in them. • Shows strong self-esteem. • Makes decisions for the benefit of the school and community. • Exhibits the flexibility and willingness to accept change. • Possesses courage and persistence of one’s convictions. • Balances a superb intellect with common sense. Required Skills and Behavior: • Develops and implements plans to: Ø Increase student achievement Ø Increase attendance Ø Strengthen instructional opportunities Ø Provide a safe learning environment Ø Provide student services Ø Comply with federal, state, and local laws and Board policies and procedures and other school district initiatives • Communicates, collaborates and builds strong relationships with key stakeholders including: Ø Teachers and staff Ø Students and parents Ø Community and business partners Ø Other members of the school and district community • Selects and mentors a high-quality school staff. • Develops and maintains quality data, a balanced budget and operational systems control closely tied to instructional priorities. Experience Requirements: • 7 – 10 years of exemplary teaching experience or comparable leadership experience is essential. • Administrative experience as Principal, Assistant Principal, or in the area of instructional leadership. • Additional leadership experience on the campus or otherwise is essential. • Experience in an elementary or middle school preferred. Educational Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university – preferred. • Administrator’s Certificate appropriate for the Principal’s position or the ability to acquire it. • One year of work experience is equivalent to one year of college requirements. The Varnett Public School Campus Director Job Description Page 2 of 2 Other Requirements: • Maintains good attendance. • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the district. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district. • Exhibits great listening and communication skills. • Is a self-starter and pays attention to detail. • Possesses great integrity and is looked upon as a leader. • Is reliable, punctual, and possesses great time management details (i.e. meets deadlines regularly). • Exhibit the willingness and flexibility to accept change. • Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus; judge distance (close and distant); reach with arms extended and use hands to manipulate the keyboard. • Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, bend, climb, and/or be mobile. • Ability to travel throughout the district and city by means of private or public transportation. If driving personal (or private) vehicle, must possess a valid driver’s license and appropriate insurance coverage
