Job Overview
Trainer Driver Transportation will train qualified School Bus Drivers and Bus Monitors district wide according to Fort Bend ISD established guidelines and legal requirements. Provide on-going training and skills performance evaluations for new and existing employees. Ensure the Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) curriculum is taught to all new Bus Driver hires or to existing staff seeking endorsements.Provide safe, efficient, and reliable transportation service by operating various school buses in transporting students to and from school as well as related activities while maintaining a harmonious relation with transportation staff, district administrators, teachers, coaches, and community members. Incumbent could spend 20% of their time driving a school bus route and 80% of their time performing in class theory training for trainees seeking CDL and Behind the Wheel Training, dependent upon work load and assignment availability.

Position Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Safety & Training

  • Perform transportation training inclusive of Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) and Behind the Wheel Training with new and existing employees in accordance to Fort Bend ISD established guidelines DPS and DOT requirements
  • Train new employees on bus walk-around pre-trip and under the hood inspection to ensure DPS and ELDT testing standards are met
  • Train new and existing employees in completing and maintaining required paperwork, reports and documentation
  • Provide new and existing employees with Student Discipline techniques in compliance with department and District Policies & Procedures related to student management aboard buses
  • Assist with the implementation of Risk Management, Safety & Driver Training Programs for all employees
  • Assist with the planning, coordination and training for the District and Region School Bus Road-eo
  • Provide re-training for staff involved in preventable incidents/accidents and properly document completion
Operations
  • Transport students over assigned routes as needed, observing all traffic laws and safety regulations
  • Operate school bus in a safe manner in accordance with state and federal laws and Fort Bend ISD Policies & Procedures
  • Perform Pre- and Post-trip inspections in accordance with state laws and Fort Bend ISD Policies & Procedures
  • Immediately report any accident, incident and/or maintenance problem in accordance with Fort Bend ISD Policies & Procedures
  • Adhere to route description directions and established schedules, but in a safe manner
  • Required to keep the interior of the assigned vehicle clean, presentable and properly fueled in accordance with Fort Bend ISD Policies & Procedures
  • Must be able to physically assist passengers in evacuation of the vehicle in case of an emergency
  • Communicate with parents, school personnel and general public
  • Assist bus drivers in the resolution of route problems
  • Assist in the development and implementation of student safety awareness programs
  • Assist in training and/or covering of bus routes district wide as needed
  • Assist with accident investigations as directed
Administrative
  • Must complete all required paperwork (route changes, vehicle repairs, headcounts) and submit to appropriate authority in a timely manner
  • Administer and enforce student discipline in accordance with Fort Bend ISD Policies & Procedures and prepare discipline reports as necessary
  • Read and interpret route directions as well as read and use maps to follow directions
  • Coordinate and attend required in-services, safety meetings and training sessions
  • Adhere to student Individualized Education Plan documents and maintain confidentiality
  • Document and maintain all training records as required by State and Federal regulations and Fort Bend ISD policies & procedures
  • Assist new and existing employees with becoming familiar with Transportation Department Policies & Procedures, DPS and DOT laws and regulations
  • Prepare training documents and maintain training reports/schedules for trainees
  • Prepare and submit training required documents/reports in a timely manner
  • Attend professional development activities/programs to keep abreast of developments in innovations in the area of transportation
  • Provide bi-weekly metrics on training completed
  • Actively monitor and track the status of trainees assigned from the beginning to the conclusion of training

Qualifications
 Qualification Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Associate's degree preferred
  • Texas CDL Driver's License, Class A or B, with P and S endorsements
  • Pass an Annual Physical Per (DOT) Department of Transportation
  • Texas School Bus Driver Certification 8 hour refresher every 3 years
  • TEEX or ESC Region 4 Training Academy certification program for school bus driver instructors within 90 days or attend first available class
  • Vehicle Collision Investigation through TASB within 90 days or attend first available class
  • Minimum of 3 years of general work experience
  • Minimum of 1 year of driving experience as a professional school bus driver
  • Minimum of 1 year of Bus Driver Training Experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and well developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer literate, preferably in word processing, power point, and spreadsheets
  • Knowledgeable in adult training techniques
  • Strong organization and group presentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively with department staff
  • Basic math skills, detail oriented, and mapping skills
