About You

As a Policy Consultant, you will help school districts maintain their localized policy manual by providing consulting services, training, and other resources related to policy management and governance. This is an Austin-based hybrid role, requiring selected candidate to work at our North Austin headquarters up to three days a week.

A Typical Day

  • Respond to emails and phone calls from districts regarding policy needs.
  • Prepare drafts of policy revisions and process board adopted policy changes.
  • Consult with school board members and district administrators on a variety of policy topics and best practices for implementing policy requirements.
  • Develop presentation materials for training member districts on various topics.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, implementing solutions, analyzing the results, and deciding to iterate, pivot, or stay the course.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Develop effective relationships and serve as a trusted advisor for policy related matters to our member districts.
  • Be a part of the consultant team in developing resources and materials for district use.

Skills for Success

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree is required; Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working in or with a school district is strongly preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability: 

  • Ability to analyze and assess how changes in law affect local school district governance;
  • Ability to adapt, deal with ambiguity and learn quickly;
  • Ability to research and analyze complex policy-related topics;
  • Ability to create project plans, set milestones, delegate tasks, and track progress.
  • Ability to travel an average of two nights a month. 
  • Highest level of integrity in managing confidential and sensitive information.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team atmosphere; and
  • Strong attention to detail.

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copiers. Position involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing in carrying out job duties. May be required to lift and move up to 10lbs. at a time.
