Primary Purpose:
The Principal of J.F. Kennedy High School is an experienced, instructionally focused, system-oriented leader who can build a culture of high expectations and achievement with staff and students. The principal can develop the leadership team to high levels of performance, improve instructional practices, and implement systems of support for students to achieve high levels. The principal understands and effectively implements the critical levers of the Effective Schools Framework to provide a clear vision of success with all stakeholders and can effectively manage the various demands associated with the principalship of a comprehensive high school.

Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Master’s degree in educational administration
Valid Texas Mid-Management or Principal’s Certificate
Advanced Education Leadership (AEL) certification, Instructional Leadership Training (ILT), or Instructional Leadership Development (ILD), certification preferred
T-TESS (Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System) Appraiser Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction, including career and technical education and dual credit/dual enrollment models; project-based and blended learning
Ability to develop innovative teaching models that allow teachers to act as coaches and mentors, which promote new types of learning, and include incentive structures that reward collaboration and student success
Ability to evaluate and modify instructional program and teacher effectiveness based on data analysis and interpretation
Ability to solve problems, think critically, and manage conflicts
Ability to cultivate and maintain critical industry partnerships
Ability to engage families as partners within all facets of the school
Ability to manage budget and personnel
Ability to coordinate campus function and incorporate non-traditional activities including enrichment and clubs to extend the school day and year
Ability to implement policies and procedures
Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
Ability to implement effective virtual learning practices and utilize digital tools and platforms

Experience:
Three years as Principal/Associate Principal experience required
Three years of classroom teaching experience
Three years of experience in an administrative/instructional leadership role
Performance Expectations:
Student Achievement Metrics:
JFK to have a graduation rate of 94% or higher.
JFK campus to attain a B or higher rating based on the Texas Education Agency Accountability System for the 2023-2024 school year.
JFK to attain a component score of 45 or higher in Domain I.
Student Growth Metrics:
JFK to attain a component score of 66 or higher in Academic Progress and 72 or higher in Closing the Gaps in Domain II.
JFK to attain a CCMR score of 55 or higher.
Operation Metrics:
JFK attains 90% Average Daily Attendance.
JFK meets enrollment target by close of business Friday of last week of first grading period.
Manage healthy adult and student school culture, resulting in positive organizational health results, employee retention, student persistence, and family feedback (accessed informally).
The principal develops school leadership team members into transformational individuals who can lead their campus.

Measure teacher development through TTESS and other Teacher Incentive Allotment Indicators that show growth in 100% teacher performance.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Management
Build a common vision for instructional excellence and continuous improvement.
Work with district and campus staff to review planning, operation, supervision and evaluation of curriculum and instruction.
Direct planning activities and put programs in place with staff to ensure attainment of school’s mission.
Facilitate collaborative planning amongst the teaching team and interdisciplinary approaches to both core academics and career and technical coursework.
Identify, analyze, and apply research and data findings to promote school improvement.
Monitor instructional processes to ensure program activities are related to outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions where necessary.
Provide instructional resources and materials needed to accomplish instructional goals.
School or Organization Improvement
Establish clear expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public.
Foster collegiality and team building among staff members and encourage their active involvement in decision-making process.
Solicit regular input from the campus-level planning committee regarding operation, supervision, and evaluation of the campus education program. Include students and community representatives when appropriate.
Establish campus performance objectives for Academic Excellence Indicators using the campus planning process and involving site-based decision-making committee. Demonstrate campus progress using results to promote school improvement.
Assume responsibility for all aspects of overall school organization.
Student Management
Work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
Ensure that school rules are uniformly applied, and student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
Management of Fiscal, Administrative, and Facilities Functions
Comply with district policies, state and federal laws, and regulations affecting schools.
Develop and administer campus budgets based on documented program needs and estimated enrollment ensuring that operations are cost effective and funds are managed wisely.
Manage the use of school facilities.
Supervise maintenance of school facilities to ensure a clean, orderly, and safe campus.
Personnel Management
Select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff and make recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal. Approve all personnel assigned to campus.
Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff.
Coach staff and help them identify and develop appropriate professional growth opportunities as well as accomplish improvement goals.
Work with campus-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development activities.
School or Community Relations
Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
Develop new and innovative ways to engage parents in the learning process.
Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
Professionalism
Participate in district and campus staff development programs that improve job related skills and professional growth.
Demonstrate current knowledge, understanding and skill appropriate to role of principal.
Demonstrate a high level of personal integrity, a collaborative leadership style and high ethical standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and firing of staff assigned to the campus, including assistant principal(s), teachers, counselor(s), librarian(s), instructional aides, clerical support staff, and custodians.
