Position Summary
The Dietitian ensures compliance with federal, state, and local policies and reporting guidelines for the child nutrition dietary needs. Using independent judgment and familiarity of the field to perform work, the Dietitian administers various dietary programs, enhances the learning environment through effective and efficient Child Nutrition Services, updates the Wellness Policy, supports and trains staff for district-led projects and initiatives, and promotes nutritional education to students and parents.
Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities
- Develops all Special Diets for SAISD Special Needs Students using latitude for independent judgement.
- Conducts Special Diet audits at campuses to ensure compliance; reports findings to senior level/management position.
- Attends Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC) and others as deemed necessary.
- Maintains and updates Wellness Policy.
- Manages Special Meal Requests to include review and approval using latitude for independent judgement.
- Develops training for staff and special projects; may be asked to facilitate training.
- Promotes Nutrition education through: Parent Summits, Principal’s Coffees, and visits to classrooms.
- Supports Senior Executive Director and Directors as needed with various department projects and activities
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.
Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or 4 years equivalent experience.
• 5+ years progressive experience in management of food production operations and/or clinical nutrition.
• Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Eligible (Registration must be completed within 6 months of start date) as approved by the American Dietetic Association Commission on Dietetic Registration.
• Valid Texas Food Management Program Certification or ability to obtain certification within ninety (90) days of employment.
• Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.
