PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

To work in conjunction with Superintendent and district leaders to build capacity for supporting strategic thinking and action around the GISD Vision and Mission.

 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

o   Development and System Support

o   Develop and support systems to advance the GISD Learner Profile growth, design relationships, learning, and engagement.

o   Design and facilitate the implementation of an adaptive system of leadership learning, development, and support.

o   Nurture and implement systems to support a culture of collaboration, continuous learning and improvement.

o   Create systems and processes by which resources are aligned to District Goals.

o   Work directly with district leaders to:  Lead multiple district project teams, lead district Design Team, and ensure the work of the GISD Strategic Direction is moving forward, including; the design and implementation of engaging work for all students, the building and modeling of meaningful relationships, growth in Learner Profile attributes, and culture of continuous learning for students and adults.

o   Apply the findings of research and district student achievement results to improve the content, sequence and outcomes of the teaching/learning process.

o   Utilize knowledge of curriculum content and the curriculum development process to facilitate teacher development of appropriate learning experiences for students to ensure that it is continuous and responsive.

o   Plan, implement and evaluate TEKS-based instructional programs with teachers and principals, including learning objectives, instructional strategies and assessment techniques.

o   Work with appropriate staff to develop, maintain and revise curriculum documents based on systematic review and analysis.

o   Encourage and support the development and implementation of innovative instructional programs to achieve identified needs.

o   Effectively involve instructional staff with evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs.

o   Coordinate and supervise core curriculum programs and prepare federal reports and budgets.

o   Coordinate and supervise summer programs and summer school.

o   Coordinate and supervise district professional development and organizational improvement.

o   Provide leadership and oversee the district's efforts to eliminate any student achievement gap.

o   Support Dropout Prevention and Recovery programs.

o   Communication

o   Use appropriate interpersonal skills and collaborative methods to guide and lead individuals and groups toward task accomplishment.

o   Establish and maintain program articulation and open communication among peers.

o   Maintain a positive, collaborative and mutually supportive working relationship with campus staff, students, parents, and the community.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

o   Supervise assigned staff, including Executive Directors.

 

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES

 

Education/Certification/Experience:

o   Bachelor’s degree from accredited university, Master’s degree preferred.  Valid Texas certification preferred.  Principal experience preferred.  Elementary experience preferred.  Experience in Curriculum Design, School Improvement and Literacy Improvement.  Progressively responsible experience in public school district administration.  Supervisory experience required.

o   Deep understanding of designing engaging work philosophy, belief and strategies

o   Understanding of the GISD Learner Profile and Strategic Priorities

o   Passion for creating a culture of engagement for students and adults

o   Demonstrated ability to provide and facilitate quality professional learning for self and others

o   Ability to monitor and implement laws, rules, and policies

o   Ability to plan and present information to a variety of audiences

o   Ability to exchange accurate information

o   Ability to understand opposing points of view on highly complex issues

o   Ability to negotiate and integrate different viewpoints

o   Ability to organize and prioritize work schedules of others on a long-term basis

o   Ability to make decisions which have significant impact on the district’s credibility, operations and services

o   Ability to compose material; detailed reports, work-related manuals, publications of limited scope or impact and to make presentations outside of the immediate work area

o   Ability to formulate complex and comprehensive materials; legal documents, authoritative reports, official publications of major scope and impact, and to make formal presentations

o   Ability to compute analyze, and interpret complex statistical data and/or to develop forecasts and computer models

o   Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with others

 

Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands:

o   Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

o   Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

o   Prolonged standing and sitting; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

o   Frequent walking

o   Regular exposure to noise

o   Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

o   May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent district-wide travel; occasional statewide travel and out-of-state travel

o   Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
