Job Summary:

Direct day-to-day management operations for the cosmetology program at Collin College. Maintain standards for SACSCOC (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges) and TDLR (Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation). Facilitate staffing and faculty hiring, assist with budget preparation and maintenance, and provide leadership and coordination for curriculum development, recruiting, advising, and program marketing.

  

Required Qualifications:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate with the executive dean in strategic and academic cycle planning for the cosmetology program, advisory committee, and cosmetology courses, including developing and maintaining internships with beauty industry connections.
  • Develop the master schedule to maximize utilization of cosmetology labs and classrooms for the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of instruction for dual credit, regular college students, and continuing education students.
  • Direct day-to-day management and evaluation of the cosmetology program, faculty and staff, facilities, and resources to accomplish safe and effective program delivery. Collaborate and coordinate cosmetology program activities and projects.
  • Develop and maintain industry partnerships and alliances to benefit the program and students. Provide support for active industry advisory committee as required by the THECB. Ensure all TDLR standards for curriculum and cosmetology labs are met. Stay current with new TDLR regulations. Regularly meet off-site with industry employers as needed to promote internships and graduation job placement.
  • Develop a plan to achieve external, industry-related accreditation with NACCAS (National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts and Sciences). Ensure that accreditation standards are met on an ongoing basis. Maintain required records and ensure program practices comply with college policy and the THECB (Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board) standards.
  • Will teach one class per academic year. When necessary, serve as a substitute in case of faculty absence. Assist the executive dean in the operation of the faculty search committee and recommend full-time and adjunct faculty and staff hires.
  • Assist the executive dean in the ongoing, systematic evaluation of the cosmetology program, curriculum, learning resources, and student learning outcomes, including production and preservation of program/student records.
  • Facilitate management and planning of the cosmetology program budget. Work with the executive dean to make budget requests and recommendations. Ensure the program remains within the identified budgets. Assist the executive dean in the fiscal planning and management of the program and its resources. This includes salon services management and revenue reconciliation with the business office.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in the three cosmetology labs as required for warranties, safe operation, and optimal learning outcomes. Maintain accurate equipment and supply inventories and prepare supplemental budget requests and justification as needed.
  • Work with career coaches, college and career counselors, workforce recruiters, and Communications to develop and implement student outreach and recruitment strategies to ensure sufficient enrollment of program delivery and growth.

Physical Demands, Working Conditions and Physical Effort
Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work. Positions in this class typically include talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions, plus stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting and intense noises, gases and workspace restrictions. In addition, incumbents may be subjected to vibrations, chemicals and oils. Relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Office environment. Frequent physical effort required.


Required
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and five (5) years of teaching experience in Cosmetology or (5) five years industry experience.

 

Preferred

Master's degree in a related field.
 
Licenses and Certifications
Current TDLR Cosmetology License, required.
Additional TDLR current Class A Barber License, preferred.
