PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Executive Director, Auxiliary Services performs complex and highly advanced work assisting in the direction and guidance of strategic operations and planning for auxiliary, hospitality-focused, and other services. This role will assist with the oversight of the operations that comprise the College's Auxiliary Services, including but not limited to café and food service outlets, concessions, beverage and snack vending, bookstore operations and related programs, and other auxiliary service units as identified and developed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Directs strategic planning for auxiliary services, fostering student success, generating revenue for scholarships, and assists in hiring, training, and developing management and support staff for Auxiliary Service units
  2. Administers and manages vendor contracts for auxiliary services, ensuring compliance, operating performance
  3. Provides oversight and management of contracts for auxiliary services, including campus dining, bookstore, and related business functions, while communicating operational issues and identifying solutions to appropriate leaders
  4. Researches and analyzes data to make informed decisions and recommendations in context of strategic planning and operational improvements
  5. Collaborates with College leaders to align departmental operations and systems with functional and strategic needs, keeping abreast with industry Auxiliary Service practices, rules, and regulations
  6. Acts as a liaison between administrative offices, colleges, and services providers, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration
  7. Ensures compliance with state and federal laws, College policies, and divisional directives within Auxiliary Services
  8. Receives and responds to complex and confidential inquiries while managing inquiries and requests related to auxiliary operations
  9. Develops activities, policies, and procedures that promote the College community and facilitate efficient operations
  10. Oversees financial responsibility and marketing strategies for assigned services and auxiliaries, including budget planning and development
  11. Executes new operations within Auxiliary Services to address the evolving needs of the College
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of principles and practices related to strategic planning for auxiliary services
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws, College policies, and divisional directives related to auxiliary services to ensure compliance
  • Knowledge of financial responsibility and marketing strategies for assigned services and auxiliaries including budget planning and development
  • Skill in administering and managing contracts
  • Skill in writing and public speaking
  • Skill in advertising, marketing, promotion, supervision of office staff, and web marketing
  • Skill in critical thinking and problem-solving
  • Skill in handling complex and confidential inquiries with discretion related to auxiliary operations
  • Ability to plan and implement effective, collegiate public relations and college advancement strategies
  • Ability to research and analyze data in order to make recommendations for strategic planning and operational improvements
  • Demonstrated success as a team leader and project coordinator
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a student-centered, team-oriented environment

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:  

  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 7 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree
  • Experience in food service and at least one other service area (e.g. bookstore, vending, auction/surplus property, print and mailroom operations, and etc.)
  • Experience in higher education auxiliary services, finance and management or a related field

Salary

Hiring salary range is $96,107 to $110,523.

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions.  Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.  Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.  The information outlined below will provide the Office of Human Resources everything needed to determine an accurate starting salary.
