Primary Purpose:
To conduct school based law enforcement services that helps provide a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment for students, staff and visitors. Foster an efficient and cohesive program that builds positive relationships between law enforcement officers and students.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Texas Peace Officer License issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
Valid Texas driver’s license Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work well with youth and adults
Excellent oral and written communication
Experience:
Experienced TCOLE certified peace officers
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a TCOLE certified peace officer
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to de-escalate altercations
Ability to work under pressure in crisis situations
Ability to write a comprehensive and accurate law enforcement investigative report
Ability to utilize two-way radios to communicate with other officers and first responders
Provide valid Texas Class C driver license and prove insurability to operate District vehicles
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Security and Telecommunications
- Be familiar with community agencies that offer assistance and services to students and families.
- Confer with school staff and administration to minimize dangerous situations or activities.
- Complete departmental training to maintain proficiency in assigned duties.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible, and serve as a role-model for all employees and staff, as well as students, parents, community members and guests of the district.
- Patrol district campuses and facilities.
- Be willing to work a variety of shifts with little notice.
- Investigate criminal offenses that occur at within the district’s jurisdiction.
- Assist with campus traffic control, monitoring of campus activities as well as after-hours athletic and other school activities to ensure the safety and welfare of students, staff, and visitors.
- Adhere to district directives, policies and safety standards as they relate to daily duties.
- Complete other duties as assigned by supervisors within line-of-authority.
