Primary Purpose:
Perform accounting work, involving compilation, consolidation, analysis and reporting of financial data. Under supervision, responsible for maintaining general ledger account balances in conformity with General Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP). Prepares accurate monthly journal entries, financial reports and accounting summaries. Examines accounting documents for accuracy and ensures compliance with policies and procedures and accounting standards.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification(s):
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Accounting, Finance or related field
- CPA or CMA preferred
- 3 plus years school accounting experience preferred
- TASBO certification preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Thorough knowledge of governmental accounting and auditing principles established by the Governmental Accounting System Board (GASB)
- Knowledge of Texas Education Agency (TEA) Financial Accountability Resource Guide
- Knowledge and ability to perform bank reconciliation
- Knowledge of computerized accounting systems
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, evaluate accounting problems, and recommend improved procedures
- Ability to use software to develop reports and spreadsheets
- Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
- Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent analytical skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Prepares monthly journal entries.
- Performs the monthly bank reconciliation for the operating, construction, payroll and debt service accounts.
- Assists with the reconciliation of balance sheet and/or general ledger accounts related to various funds and prepares entries to balance those accounts.
- Provide financial services and information to school district personnel.
- Assists in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
- Assists with the periodic accounting review and analysis at organization and district-wide level.
- Record, store and analyze information using accounting software.
- Communicates and assists in providing direction to campuses and departments regarding proper accounting and administration of the district’s funds.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including auditable records and financial statements.
- Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results
- Assists in the preparation of income statements, balance sheets, consolidated statements, and other statements and reports.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration among district staff and campus administration to enhance service delivery.
- Maintain confidentiality of information and support district goals and plans.
- Develop and document business processes and accounting principles to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Duties:
No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.
